Some Useful Tutorials for Digital Artists

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 30, 2007, 11:35 PM
I thought that I might try to plug some tutorials that I have found helpful. Please feel free to share ones that you like as well, digital OR traditional!

Basic linework and colouring by *brianne333
[link]
Probably the single most invaluable tutorial that I ran across when I first developed an interest (grudgingly) in digital work.

General background tutorial by *ESDA06
[link]
This one inadvertently taught me everything I needed to know about making my own brushes.

Glow tutorial by *khaosdog
[link]
Simplest (and best) tutorial I have found for making stuff glow. This is the technique that I typically use.

Water/sea tutorial by *Risachantag
[link]

Fire tutorial by ~Hawk4
[link]

Rain tutorial by *B1nd1
[link]

Watermarking by *Divine-Star
[link]
This is the technique that I use for "invisibly" watermarking my art. It's pretty damn cool and one of the easiest ways to protect your art. I highly recommend it.

Current Projects

Crowpaw: Sketching
Firestar and Leafpool nuzzling: Colouring

Bobcat paladin: Inked
And a few surprise gifts/contest entries. I don't want to ruin the surprise!

When I did exclusively traditional work, I even found that a lot of tutorials meant for digital art applied for traditional as well. Well, usually for paint more so than coloured pencils, but a lot of the basics could be used for almost any media!

Which program do you use? Pretty much the only one I've messed with so far is PS, but I'm always interested in tying out new and different media.

While I did not use it exclusively, I found this technique quite helpful, particularly in it's suggestion of brushes to use. Glad I could help!

:D awesome! thanks for taking your time to put this together!

I use the GIMP, which is a free program basically meant for those people who are too poor to buy Photoshop/too honest to pirate it!
Overall it hasn't got as many capabilities as PS (or if it has, I haven't found them?), but it suits my needs for occasionally colouring in some inked lines. You can still get decent effects, like I did for this [link] but I normally prefer colouring traditionally...
Also lately I have been drawing a lot on an oekaki board [link]
I's oddly fun! XD
