Artist's Comments

The other day, I got to interact with two female Amur tiger cubs at a local animal park. Their names are Czarina and Anushka, and they live at Jungle Cat World in Orono, Ontario. They are quite beautiful and energetic. I have to say, it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. :) Even if they did like playing with each other better than playing with me (not that I blame them, I would, too).

If you live in Ontario, Canada, I recommend visiting this place sometime. The animals are active, and many of them are happy to see people. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and they have an excellent breeding program for rare creatures like the Amur tiger.

Some of the photos that my partner took were very nice, so I thought that I would use one to make a quick (~1 hour) painting. Sort of a break from "serious" art, and an experiment in medium.

Medium: Wine, sharpie marker, and coloured pencil

...and you are lynching negroes.

I must say, I never thought of using wine as a painting medium O__O
You seem to be able to wonders with it! :faint: This picture is stunning! It looks straight out of a wildlife painting book! I'm just in awe over it. If I have money, I would ask to buy a print to hang on my wall.... :wow: This is just plain beautiful!
Great ingenuity of mediums and pose!
Definitely one of my favorite works of yours to date :D

Consider the daffodil. And while you’re doing that, I’ll be over here, looking through your stuff.

ooh i'll see if I can go when we visit my inlaws around thanksgiving (hopefully)

Gorgeous use of the colors and shades of red!

Do you have nothing better to do with your life? Go out and plant a fucking tree, you lazy bitch. Plant it most violently. Rip somebody's parking lot up to do it. Beat them violently to death with a shovel, if they try to object. ~ Alexiuss

I've seen a bunch of paintings around DA made with coffee and tea, and I though, "screw that, I've got about six bottles of wine in the fridge!" So I grabbed one and went with it. It was surprisingly fun, and a little weird (it dries a different colour than it goes on).

If you have a printer or access to a copy shop that can print from a digital file, note me with your e-mail address! I'll grab a bigger scan tomorrow night after work and mail it to you for printing. I'm honoured that you like it that much! :)

I have seen those as well, but somehow the thought of painting with wine just strikes me as much more genius! :D Great work!

I would love the bigger scan. I have a scanner/printer I can go to and use that prints out picture quality, so if I could have a bigger size scan from you, that'd be great! :)
I really do like this, very much

Call ahead of time when you find out when you'll be in town, and see if they have any appointments available to meet the tigers! It was so amazing, something I never thought that I would get to experience. I got to tickle their bellies and get NOMMed... and my partner got pounced by one when his back was turned. It's still fun even if you don't get to meet any of the animals up close, though. They have a lot of unusual cats, like sand cats and fishing cats, and they will be "boarding" a white tiger sometime during the summer/fall.

Wow, Moon. This is absolutely gorgeous. ^^ I love the simplicity of the piece, but the fact that it has so much expression and emotion in it.

Right on girl!

wine, eh? Nifty idea, and a great drink for afterwards!
I've always wanted to go interact with the tiger cubs, you're lucky! And they inspired some lovely art too :)

They're adorable :D I bet that experience was simply amazing ^^ And I love the loose watercolor-like style here!
