This is really beautiful, I love it. I can't wait to see Ambrose when you're able to work on him. This makes me all the more exited! (No rush, I know you're busy, but I think you're art is just amazing.)
Thanks! I do hope that you will like it. I think that I finally got a pose that I'm happy with, so he should be finished in another week or two. Ha ha, I'll have to send you some sketches of some of my failed poses when I mail out the finished piece!
I wonder what she's remembering. Going off the facial expression it's not a happy memory but not necessarily depressing. Another way I look at it is that she's contemplating something. Given the scythe as a symbol of the Reaper, perhaps death?
Love how your art makes me think of different scenarios.
Thanks! I thought that a contemplative rat with a scythe might be appropriate for a new year; the death of an old year, followed by the birth of the new one. Lots of memories to consider, and new experiences to look forward to. I'm glad that you liked this little fellow!
this is beautiful it's not very often that really well done rat and mice pieces get posted here on DA let alone make front page ^^ another thing that intrieved me was the media used on this piece, red wine? now that's new and kinda exciting (im gonna have to nick a shot from one of dad's crappy $10 bottles and try this ¬_¬ ) very nicely done
Thanks! I love drawing rats. Along with tigers, they're my favourit little creatures! They're almost like small people.
And I definitely recommend giving red wine staining a try! It has a very lovely colour, and it dries incredibly quickly. The cheap wines work just as well as the expensive ones, too, so you don't have to feel bad about "wasting" good wine.
wow cool :3 i'll definitely have to give that a go! and your quite right, rats and mice re characteristically just like humans XD (i should know, i have a little mouse and he's a little person XD) though it's probably due to the fact we share 97% of the same DNA
