The Seneschal had been afraid to turn against the Brotherhood Cabal, but his sense of honour and duty allowed him no other option. He rejected the Cabal's beliefs that the people must be controlled through intimidation and suffering, witnessing in horror that those he had sworn to protect starved while the Brotherhood grew fat. In his disgust and despair, the Seneschal turned his back on the Brotherhood, taking with him only a tiny, stolen seed of hope. He dared not dream of the day when there would be no more cruel and violent subjugation, because the Cabal controlled the dreaming world as well as the waking world.
