Sort of a quickie piece, to get into the creative mood. Since a lot of people ask me what types of animals are featured in my "rodent" drawings (they're usually rats, fyi), I thought that I might try a group of different species from the order Rodentia! This one is focusing on a few that I've had as pets (except for the chimera, which I just think is cool). Perhaps I will do some other species in the future, who knows.

The species:

Front, with carrot: Degu, Octodon degus

Tawny rodent, behind degu: Egyptian spiny mouse, Acomys cahirinus

Middle, white rodent: Sprague-Dawley lab rat, Rattus norvegicus

On white rat's left shoulder: Fancy mouse, Mus musculus

On white rat's right shoulder: Apodemus X house mouse chimera ([link]) Fascinating!

Back, striped rodent: Zebra mouse, Lemniscomys barbarus

Medium: Graphite, red wine, and coloured ink. The red wine came out darker than usual, probably because I'm down to the bottom of the bottle. :(

I thought that it was neat, too! I originally saw them on a TV program about people with unique abilities or skills, and I did some more research on them after that. I'm glad that you liked them, too! Even their colouration is cool, I think. Very tiger-like. :)

This really is a great piece, shame of course they couldn't be in a photoshoot together in thier real persons though. :) I espically love the rattus novegicus!

Aw, I would love to see a photo of so many rodents together! I imagine it would be extremely difficult unless they had all grown up together, though. However, that might be a candidate for a future photoshop project... ;)
