If you are curious, the tiger is a male, and the rat is a female. I don't think gender is terribly important for this story, though, so you are free to imagine them as being whichever gender you like!

And, yeah, it's a pretty difficult place to make a living. Food and resources are scarce, so competition is often very fierce. No matter how big or small you are, there's probably someone else out there looking to eat you or take over your territory!

Ah, yes, figured out the rat's gender from later commentary. Tigers are so hard to tell the difference =p

Yes! Robots (or golems) based on dog anatomy. They are for searching and security, much like real dogs. :)
