This is a quick painting that took about an hour. I am almost ashamed to upload it, because it does absolutely NO justice to the source material... but I wanted to make something for it to share with everyone.
If you haven't seen the animated short One Rat Short, you can watch it here: [link]
I first ran across this film in *swiftwhippet's journal. The story in this spoke to me in such a profound way that even now I have no words to really describe it other than this: In all of us, there is a deep, dark, and very secret place that aches and bleeds when we feel desperate and alone, when circumstances come between us and those we love, when we are powerless to save ourselves and others. This story touched that place (and my eyes are tearing up even now, thinking about it and writing this).
Please watch the short. It's only ten minutes, but easily one of the most amazing ten minutes you will spend watching a piece of animation. Share it with a friend. Share it with a loved one. And, if like it and you have the cash, download the beautiful fullscreen version for a few dollars from iTunes to help support the artist. I certainly will be, as soon as I get an online payment method.
Wow... that video made me cry... but I'm still very glad that I watched it... that white rat was so pretty, they way the artist did it... That whole thing was beautiful and I agree when you say that it was probably the most enriching 10 minutes spent watching some animation. Gorgeous... simply lovely

oh MoonSong this is so gorgeous in its simplicity. <3 I love how they're just alone together in that stark white space, and the glow around them. and of course the poses and such are just so sweet and simple. I think it's a fitting tribute and as I mentioned to you it means a lot that this film was able to move you as profoundly as you say. says a lot about the medium of animation as a filmmaking tool that doesn't just have to be used for 'kiddie cartoons'. :3

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
