My character exchange entry for ~CharacterArtXchange. This is =Teggy's dragon character Yaderson.

This is the second painting of a dragon that I have done. The last one was made nearly five years ago. Please feel free to critique this image. I would like to know what I could do better next time (particularly in the anatomy department), since I don't draw these guys very frequently.

This is magnificent, especially the moon. I really like the swirling effect, as if the moon is drawing the air around itself.

great! I like the colors especially the eye. Musculature of the wing "arm" is also great, but i think that the wings are too small, it couldn't flight.

Thanks! Ha ha, I'm actually not sure if this fellow is supposed to be a flying dragon or not. I agree, the wings definitely wouldn't support his weight if he is. :lol:

Oh my, the reds in the rocks are absolutely delicious :heart: The planet in the sky is also very mystical

Wow! I am especially impressed with the use of traditional medium! The rocks and the warm red is painted so wonderfully and I love how you built up those shadows in the crevices! The dragon, too is very pretty, especially with the colors silhouetted against the light behind it. I feel, though, that some of the limbs are just a little squat, and the neck feels like it's lacking some of it's muscle structure. Overall, though, it's very beautifully painted. Maybe next time, find a particular animal to base your fantasy creature on (whether or not it belongs to someone else xD) to help work out the difficulties of fantasy anatomy. I do think, though, the visibile hand is designed very nice. Reminds me of a dinosaur.

Thank you! I'm glad that you liked him. I definitely had fun working on him, even if it was a bit of a challenge (okay... a lot of a challenge, but still enjoyable). Basing dragon forms on existing animals is definitely a great idea. It seems like that would give me a better basis for just how the creature would be put together. I will definitely do that next time I try my hand at a dragon, which will hopefully be soon. :)
