A roulette commission for =Enaxn. She asked for her moose character Ckazz and tiger Switchback. Technically she only asked for Ckazz, but I couldn't resist drawing Switchie, too! They were raised as brothers, and I'm a SUCKER for unusual animal friends.
I originally intended to do some sort of EPIC scene, but for some reason the only thing that kept coming to mind was a calf Ckazz and cub Switchie nuzzling. So there you go, a daily dose of cuteness.
I must have looked at a thousand refs to draw that moose calf. In retrospect, I probably should have drawn his ears facing forward instead of drawn back. When they're all splayed out like that, they sort of look like donkey ears.
I started out with pencils, ball point pens, and watercolour paints. But it really depends on what type of artwork you are interested in creating, and which mediums you find the easiest to work with while you are learning. Regular graphite pencils and coloured pencils (also called "pencil crayons" in some places) are good to start with, because they are easy to handle and inexpensive. They are good for practicing lines, shapes, and shading. Other than that, just experiment with anything that you can get your hands on! Pastels, chalk, charcoal, acrylic, coffee, berries, you name it.
The only thing that I don't suggest is starting digital art until you have a good grasp with traditional mediums like pens and pencils. A lot of times, working with digital programs encourages beginning artists to simply manipulate the tools and commands, instead of learning anatomy, lighting, and composition.
This is probably the most adorable thing I've seen all year. I LOVE these type of characters, completely different but drawn together by some reason or another - like growing up as brothers, haha!
Your style is absolutely gorgeous. I can't get over it.
Goodness you've improved so much! If I remember correctly I started watching you in 2007, on an old DA account of mine. I love the colors and all the little fur details in this, it appears so /huggable/ c:
Thanks! I like to think that I slowly get better over the years. I'm trying my hardest! I'm glad that you liked this one. It was fun to experiment with al of the different media.
Love it

Hope that helped a little, and good luck!
And thank you!
