I finished this last year, but was displeased with the final image. I came across it while looking for some saved references, so I figured I might as well upload it anyway, if only to encourage people to consider helping one of the causes listed below.
Dmitri, an Amur (Siberian) tiger, resident of Jungle Cat World in Orono, Ontario. This is a photo manipulation
, and uses only my own photos.Species:
Amur (Siberian) tiger, Panthera tigris altaicaIUCN listing:
Critically EndangeredEst. Wild Population:
The Amur tiger is the largest tiger subspecies, with the average cat weighing about 400 pounds and big males weighing up to 700 pounds. Unfortunately, the world's largest wild cat is also one of the world's most endangered. The wild Amur tiger population suffers from both habitat destruction and poaching for body parts used in traditional medicines. What you can do to help:
*Click on the Care2 website's link for big cats ([link]
). It is completely free, and each daily click will protect 11,000 square feet of cat habitat, through the Wildlife Conservation Society.
*Donate money to a charity or organization that helps wild tiger populations (see links below).
*Volunteer at a local zoo or wild animal park.
*Buy products that come from sustainable forestry and agricultural operations; be wary of products containing palm oil or Sumatran coffee.
*Educate yourself and others!Helpful links:
